Apologies to anyone who has ended up here by trying to use www3.barnesy.org - I set that up for myself years ago when stuff was blocked at work. All it was was a subdomain pointing at b3ta. That is, it was just another name so stuff that blocked b3ta by name wouldn’t know to block it. But it seems that became a lot more public than I intended. Moving here means that I can’t easily keep that working, and I didn’t feel too comfortable about keeping it anyway and I think it’s lead to my domain being blacklisted on various content filters. It also means that I seem to be getting hits from some pretty entertaining google searches. Hopefully google will spot the change soon!

edit - Check cr3’s reply in the comments for some other URLs which will do the same job.

    Hi Barnesy,

I think I’m one of the culprits. I chanced on your shortcut ages ago. B3ta had been blocked at work for around a year when I was messing around one Friday doing google image searches - decided to search for b3ta and found a picture via your site. Quickly bookmarked it as it provided me with a way in. Used it quietly for ages until was asked for help from someone else - it then spread pretty quickly once it got onto the Off Topic board I think.

Although I’ve not posted much of late, I hate the thought of being locked out of b3ta again. For reasons I won’t go into, I don’t do b3ta at home.

I’m not internet savvy like some of you guys, so if you know of another way I could sidestep the firewall and access b3ta, could you email me the solution. I promise not to let on this time!

    Regards,

Che Grimsdale - epic QOTW poster

p.s. I’ve long wanted to tell you how grateful I am to you - so, thanks.

Awwww - I always thought barnesy was something that the b3ta creators had set up.

Anyway thank you for the gateway and as above I’d like to find another gateway now to make work more bearable.

Oh well, thanks all the same for the time you had it up.

I didn’t realise that you had a problem with all of us using it, I always thought it was something you were doing to be nice. I’d have stopped if I knew you didn’t like it.

    Anyway, thanks again. Also: Sorry.

Hi all. Don’t worry about apologies - that’s not the tone I intended, but it was a bit odd to find how well known it was once I did a search!

cr3 - Yay, that looks great and I think it’s the same answer my subdomain was providing. I hope those URLs bring back what I’ve had to take away. It was the horror of having no access to b3ta that made me create it in the first place.

I have to admit I had nearly had a heart attack when I got into w*rk this morning and thought I had no b3ta! Thanks for hosting it while you did, and cheers to cr3 for picking it up

To echo the above posts - thank you so much! I hated not having B3ta at work until I chanced across your redirect. So sorry to have caused you any bother with all the traffic (I mostly just read qotw).

    Thanks again.
